Auto China 2016 is the scene for one of the most technologically-advanced concepts Volkswagen has ever developed. The car is called the “T-Prime Concept GTE,” and it is set to revolutionize the hybrid crossover segment. The Volkswagen T-Prime Concept GTE technology and features are unprecedented in this class.

Hybrid T-Prime Powertrain

Three different systems work together to power the T-Prime Concept GTE. Volkswagen utilizes a 14.1 kWh electric battery, an electric motor and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine. All together, these three systems max out at 375 horsepower. All this power is sent to the wheels via the 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive system.

The T-Prime Concept GTE can operate in three different drive modes: E-Mode, Hybrid and GTE. E-Mode utilizes the electric systems of the SUV to offer a 31-mile range. If the accelerator pedal is pressed beyond a certain point, Hybrid mode will kick in and power the vehicle. When set to GTE Mode, all of the systems will work together to maximize the power and performance of the crossover.
