Volkswagen Jetta vs Passat

When you’ve got your sights set on a Volkswagen sedan, you’re certainly on the right track in our book –  but which model is right for you? Today we’re going to take a look at two of our most popular sedans: the Volkswagen Jetta vs Passat, and let you know how the two models differ so you can make the choice that’s best for you and your particular driving needs. Then we’ll let you know how you can come in and check out one –  or both! –  of these excellent options here at Karen Radley Volkswagen in Woodbridge.

So we’ll make things simple to get you started by comparing the two at their base trim level. And we’ll get the similarities out of the way: both are 5-passenger sedans, and in terms of trunk space you’re looking at a pretty even match-up with a slight difference of less than half a cubic foot. Their fuel economy is quite comparable as well, with the Jetta’s at 25 city/34 highway and the Passat offering 24 city/35 highway.

The big difference comes down to size and capability. When you want a midsize sedan with a little more get up and go, the Passat is what you’re after with its 170-horsepower turbocharged engine. Want something a bit more compact? The Jetta weighs a little over 300 pounds less than the Passat and is about ten inches shorter in length.

The Passat, geared a bit more toward the shopper looking for more comfort and convenience features upfront, comes with a few more amenities than the Jetta at the base level as well. These include front armrests in the center console area, six speakers to the Jetta’s four, automatic exterior lights, and a bit more passenger space in general. Naturally, you’ll see a bit of a jump in MSPR from the Jetta to the Passat –  It all comes down to you and what you’re looking for! Give us a call if you’d like to get behind the wheel of either model here at Karen Radley Volkswagen and we’ll be happy to show you the various trim levels and options available.
