2017 VW Jetta crash test ratings

The NHTSA and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety are two entities in the U.S. that conduct crash tests on new vehicles. The NHTSA is government run while the IIHS is a non-profit, independent organization. Overall, the two organizations conduct very different tests. Here we will focus on the NHTSA’s rating.

Each year the NHTSA conducts crash tests on a wide array of new vehicles. These include front, side and rollover tests. So how did the 2017 VW Jetta perform? The new Jetta earned four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test for an overall 5-star rating. This is in fact the highest crash test rating given by the NHTSA.

In addition to great safety ratings, the 2017 VW Jetta adds a variety of new features for the model year. New 2017 VW Jetta SE models receive a blind-spot monitor with rear traffic alert, the SEL trim adds forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. Moving up to the SEL premium, drivers will enjoy bi-xenon headlights with an adaptive front lighting system, forward collision warning and much more. For drivers looking for even more power under the hood, there’s the 2017 VW Jetta GLI model now with park distance control and a blind-spot monitor.
