2018 Volkswagen Passat GT vs R-Line
Did you hear about the upcoming 2018 Volkswagen Passat GT? If you did, you probably noticed it looks a lot like the Passat R-Line already available. If you’ve seen both, you might be wondering what the differences are between the 2018 Volkswagen Passat vs R-Line? It’s a fair question, especially when the price comes into the picture.
Pricing and features of the R-line vs GT
One of the biggest differences is the engine. Previously, the V6 engine was only available on the top trim V6 SEL Premium, which comes in at a starting MSRP of $34,650. It’s the most powerful choice, but without having the sportier looks some shoppers crave. This is where the GT comes in. It’s sportier in appearance, while still offering the 3.6-liter V6 with its 280 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque output. Paired with it is a six-speed automatic DSG transmission for a smooth and simple shifting experience.

The 2018 Volkswagen Passat GT is otherwise similar to the R-Line when it comes to appearances, offering LED headlights and daytime running lights, the R-Line bumper and honeycomb grille and a red accent line.
Since the Passat GT is a higher trim level, it also naturally has more features. Highlights include a sport suspension system, GT badging, carbon fiber optic interior trim, black leatherette upholstery with contrasting Moonrock Gray inserts, dual-zone climate control and a 6.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Though not out at this time, the 2018 VW Passat GT is due to head into the lineup in the second quarter of this year. Stay tuned here at the Karen Radley Volkswagen blog for updates.
