Ideal Vehicle Award Criteria
AutoPacific determined the winners of the Ideal Vehicle Awards based on survey results from over 65,000 new car owners. The surveys were taken after 90 days of ownership. Owners were asked about their satisfaction with the performance of their vehicle in 15 categories. These categories included ride and handling, comfort, power and acceleration, technology, interior lighting and storage and safety features. At the end of the survey, the Volkswagen earned the highest scores of the 18 compacts considered.

Under the hood of the 2016 VW Golf is a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. The turbo helps this engine produce a peppy 170 horsepower while earning impressive fuel economy ratings of 25 miles per gallon in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
