2017 Volkswagen Passat vs 2017 Honda Accord
For quite a few years now, the Volkswagen Passat and the Honda Accord have been two of the fiercest competitors in the midsize sedan segment, and for the 2017 model year, tensions are higher than ever before, as both of the vehicles are capable of achieving some very similar numbers in the categories that matter most to buyers in the midsize market.
When it comes to things such as performance, fuel economy and cargo capacity, you will find that the Passat and the Accord are strikingly similar, but time and time again, the Passat finds a way to stand just a bit taller. To give you a better idea of how the two vehicles compare, let’s delve a bit deeper into their capabilities. The decision of which one is best for you is ultimately yours to make, but with a closer look at both, we have a feeling you’ll side with the Passat.
|2017 Passat||vs||2017 Accord|
|1.8T Four-Cylinder||Base Engine||2.4L Four-Cylinder|
|3.6L V6||Optional Engine||3.5L V6|
|Six-Speed Automatic||Standard Transmission||Six-Speed Manual|
Advantages of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat
As you can see from the table above, the base engine of the Passat does measure a bit smaller than the standard engine found in the Accord, but ultimately it works in favor of the Passat, which, as you can see, offers slightly higher fuel economy ratings. With the ability to go up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway, you don’t have to worry about constant trips to the pump. If it’s power that you’re looking for, the Passat also is sure to impress you with it’s slightly larger V6 option that produces 280 horsepower compared to the slightly-inferior 278 horses of the Accord.
We understand if you don’t want to take our word when we say that the Passat holds an edge over the Accord given that we don’t come off as the most objective source, given that we are a Volkswagen dealership and all. You can take it from Cars.com, however, who just rated the Passat the Best Midsize Car for its roominess, technology and safety, but mainly for its ability to be one of the most fun to drive sedans available. It beat out the Accord, but also other top midsize sedans such as the Nissan Altima, Kia Optima and Toyota Camry.
